To "make something public" means to announce it or let others know about it publicly. It's usually used when you want people outside your immediate sphere and close connections to know about something or when something is no longer private. Ex: I made it public that I'm retiring from tennis next year. Before that, I only told a couple of people. Ex: Taylor Swift made her engagement public last night on social media. Ex: I think it's best if we keep this private. Making it public could cause a lot of confusion.
