What's the main difference between an "investigation" and a "search?"

"Search" is a much broader term than "investigation." A "search" could be part of an "investigation." But to "search," in general terms, means to look for something thoroughly. An "investigation" is an examination or process of a person or situation to determine the facts and, sometimes, discover the truth. It depends on the purpose of the investigation. Ex: I'm searching for my glasses. I don't know where I put them. Ex: They've opened an investigation to determine how the school exam papers were leaked. They also searched the classrooms for evidence. Ex: I've done some of my own investigating. And I know from social media that you have a dog.
