In ancient times or history, a sage was a wise woman/wise man who was considered to be very wise or knowledgeable. They were very well respected and often consulted by the rulers of a country on important issues. The modern equivalent today would be a philosopher or elder. Some famous sages include Socrates and Lao Tzu. Ex: The king asked the sage for his advice on how to end the famine. Ex: The wise sage was solitary and only dedicated to his learning.
