Just curious, does the word "royalty" is somewhat related to a "royal?"

As nouns, "royal" and "royalty" are related in meaning. "Royalty" is derived from "royal" and refers to people of royal rank plus their families (referred to as a group). Meanwhile, "royal" as a noun refers to a member of the royal family. So you can see that the two terms are really quite similar (just remember that royalty is usually used to refer to a group). Ex: I heard a royal dined recently at this restaurant here. Ex: Royalty really enjoy Cannes as a summer vacation spot.
