An "algorithm" is a set of instructions or rules given to a computer to solve a problem or perform an action. The function of an "algorithm" in most social media sites these days is to show the viewer exactly what they want to see or what they like. This is based on the data provided from the user, third party sites, and what users usually look at. Ex: I've been looking up puppy posts all day, and now my "for you" page is full of puppies. Ex: I searched up the price of a bag yesterday, and now all I see are adverts for bags.
