Why's he saying the soldiers should be handsome?

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

He's actually calling himself handsome! Earlier, he said, "I am your trusted general," she then calls him a "brave soldier," and he adds on "handsome." He regards himself as handsome and is aware others think the same, including her. It's not very humble and could be regarded as "cocky" or arrogant, but since he does it in a joking and flirting manner, it works well. Ex: You're lucky to have a beautiful date like me for prom. Ex: A: You're so good at playing the guitar. B: I'm handsome, too.
