Yes! It would sound a bit awkward. "Inform" is much more formal and serious than "tell". It's rare to hear children say the word "inform", so they wouldn't use it on a children's show. Ex: I have to tell Jane that it's my birthday tomorrow! => casual and fun Ex: I'll inform the guests that the party is cancelled. => serious and formal
