What's the main difference between an "enthusiasm" and a "passion?"

When we are using "enthusiasm" or "passion" as nouns to describe a strong emotion or fervor for something, they have pretty much the same meaning! Both give off a strong or intense feeling, so you can use either in this context without changing the meaning of the sentence. Ex: I have an enthusiasm for fixing up old bikes and cars. Ex: I have a passion for gardening.
