I saw people calling this show a prequel to the "Games of Thrones." What does "prequel" mean?

A "prequel" means a story or movie about what happened before the main work. So if "House of the Dragon" is a prequel it "Game of Thrones," it means that what happens in "House of the Dragon" chronologically happens before "Game of Thrones" in the story itself. Ex: "Rouge One" in the Star Wars franchise is a prequel to the original series. Ex: I hope they release a prequel for this movie soon! I prefer them to sequels. => "sequel" means it happens after the main story
