Is there a difference between "college" and "university?"

Although this varies depending on country, "university" usually refers to post-secondary schools which offer bachelor (4-year), master's (1- to 3-year), and Ph.D (4+ year) degrees. College usually refers to a school that teaches skilled trades, and programs can last anywhere from one year to four years. When you graduate, you usually receive a diploma or certificate. In the American setting, though, the two words are used interchangeably. Ex: I went to college to learn carpentry. Ex: I graduated from university with a degree in psychology.
