You can think of the major differences between a band and orchestra to be the type of music played, arrangement of members, and types of instruments used. An orchestra is a group of musicians playing instruments, who are led by a conductor to perform music on stage. Orchestral music is usually classical. Meanwhile, a band is a group of singers and musicians who play music using fewer instruments than orchestras. The types of music are also much more diverse (for example, rock, metal, and so on). Ex: I joined a rock band in high school. Ex: The flutists in this orchestra are particularly talented.
