Generally, we can use "not only" at the beginning of a clause to add emphasis. When using this grammar pattern, we have to invert the subject and the verb (but the second clause follows normal grammar patterns). We also often use "but" in the second clause. Ex: Not only was I hungry, I was also extremely tired. Ex: Not only did I win an award, I was also complimented by my boss. Ex: Not only was the food delivered cold, but it was also missing several condiments.
