What's "correspond with" mean and when's it used?

When something "corresponds with" something, it means that it matches or agrees with it. One could also use "correlate with." It's used when you want to contrast or compare two things to each other, usually for a specific purpose. Ex: The description in the book closely corresponded with the movie depiction. Ex: The data we collected from the excavation corresponds with the data from a few artifacts we have. Suggesting they're from the same time period and place. Ex: What you said doesn't correlate with what he told me. One of you is lying!
