A "balance beam" is a sort of horizontal pole raised above the ground that gymnasts have to balance on and walk across. A "beam" is another word for a kind of squared-off pole made from metal or timber. Ex: I would fall if I had to walk across a balance beam. Ex: Did you see the gymnasts in the balance beam final? Ex: We need a few beams to construct the roof.
