"Extraordinary" doesn't have a negative tone to it. Essentially it's made up of two words, "extra" and "ordinary", which is basically "more than ordinary". The word itself means "remarkable" or "amazing", but it can also mean "unusual" or "odd". Here Jake is saying that it would be an "unusual" experience. The context itself is negative, but the word is not. Ex: The show last night was extraordinary! => amazing Ex: What an extraordinary creature. I've never seen one like it before. => unusual
