What's "turn out" mean and when's it used?

"Turns/turn out" means that something happens or developed a certain way. It's usually said at the beginning of a statement to create suspense or to indicate the outcome of something. Ex: I went swimming with my dog. Turns out, he's afraid of water. Ex: I'm sure the cake will turn out okay.
