That's right! It is a kind of "medal" in Scouts. It signifies achievement for different tasks and challenges that can be achieved called "merit badges." There are also badges for progression and long-term awards, as well for the different sub-division within Scouts. Badges are traditionally used in Scouts and are often associated with them. Ex: Can you help me put my new badge on my uniform? Ex: I finally got the "Camping" merit badge.
