What's "save up" mean? Is it same as just saying "save?"

"Save up" is used when you're setting something aside, like money, to use in the future. While "save" can be used like this, it can also be said for different circumstances, like when you get a discount at the shops, you're "saving" money. Ex: I saved up all the coins I had received over the last year and cashed them in at the bank today. Ex: I'm saving up to buy a nice sofa. => more natural = I'm saving to buy a nice sofa. Ex: How much money did you save with the discount?
