Does "dish" mean "food?" I thought it's means "plate" as in wash the dishes.

"Dish" does mean food, as well as the plates one uses. When referring to food, "dish" means a particular variety of foods or a specific meal. Ex: Lasagne is my favorite dish to make. Ex: We need to add some side dishes, like salad and fries. Ex: Can you wash the dishes when we've finished eating?
