Is there any difference in meaning between "medicine" and "medication"?

They do mean the same thing here! However, when talking about medicine in general, pills or substances you take to help with illness, "medicine" is more common than "medication." "Medication" is a little more formal and is sometimes used when you take one kind of medicine for a very long time or continually. Also, "medicine" can sometimes refer to the practice of medicine, whereas "medication" can refer to the substances you take. Ex: Did you get medicine from the pharmacy? = Did you get any medication from the pharmacy? => a little too formal Ex: I'm on medication for my diabetes. Ex: I decided to study medicine at university.
