I'm guessing here that since he is a singer, he may be referring to a musician's lifestyle of constantly being on the road (travelling from place to place) to play shows. He may be saying that once he misses home, he may hate being on the road (travelling) even if he enjoyed it previously. Ex: I've been on the road for over a month because of work. Ex: He's always on the road, so it's hard for him to maintain a relationship with someone.
