Servant was historically used to describe the live-in workers who helped to run the households of wealthy family, doing things like cleaning, cooking, and driving. Of course, this job still exists but the term "servant" is no longer used in the modern context today. Slaves are a different concept; it was usually used to refer to people who were owned (like property) by others, to be used and even abused as the owners pleased. They also worked like servants, but were not paid for it. Slavery and servitude still exist in many forms around the world today, although slavery is illegal and considered a major violation of human rights.
