What's the main difference between "check" and "check out?"

If you "check out" something, it means that you have a look at it to see what it's like and get more information about it for the first time. "Check out" is more casual than "check," and "check" is more technical. Ex: I'm just checking if I have everything in my bag. Ex: Let's go check out the new restaurant on the corner of the block! Ex: She'll check to see how you're doing on your first day. Ex: I'm keen to check out that new movie. Ex: Check out this ad! => ad = advertisement
