This is a bit of a controversial joke. Islam has a strong tradition of aniconism (being against the representation of religious figures or living figures through images). In 2005, a Danish newspaper published a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammed, which is forbidden in Islam. The cartoons were seen to be negative and insulting by many Muslims, and many thought they represented growing anti-Muslim hostility in Europe. It set off many riots and protests in Muslim countries and attracted global media attention. Hasan Minhaj is referring to this incident when he jokes that Hindus like cartoons, but Muslims don't.
