I don't understand the intent of the question “gif” or “jif”. Why does she say that answer the question is too dangerous?

She said that answering that question is "too dangerous" because in the United States, there is a controversy about whether that word is pronounced "gif" or "jif". People have strong opinions about which way they think it is pronounced, therefore she didn't want to look bad if the way she thought it was pronounced wasn't the same as the interviewer.
