"Something" in this case means "a thing" and specifically refers here to the general things that he uses everyday. So "the dining space isn't something I use everyday" means that the dining space is not one of the things that he uses daily. You can use "something" whenever you want to refer to an unspecified object or idea. Ex: Something is really loud. Ex: Fruit is something I can't live without. In the second example, "something" refers to one of the things that you can't live without, which is fruit.
