What does "schmuck" mean? Since it has "sch-" in the beginning, is it a German-related word?

"Schmuck" means a foolish, obnoxious, detestable, or stupid person. It actually comes from Yiddish! In its literal Yiddish meaning, it refers to male genitals. Here, they're calling him a foolish and strongly disliked person. Ex: My professor was such a schmuck. Ex: I hope he doesn't turn out to be a schmuck like his brothers.
