The difference is that a "vegetable" is the edible part of a "plant." But a vegetable could be any plant considered suitable for eating. So a vegetable can also be a plant, but a plant might not be a vegetable. Ex: I'm growing a few vegetable plants on my balcony. Ex: I want to buy a plant for the house.
