What's "oriented" mean here? How's "orient" usually used as a verb?

To "be oriented" means to be positioned in a direction, relative (compared) to something or someplace else. It has a meaning similar to "positioned" or "located," and can be meant in a metaphorical way. Ex: Where are you oriented on the political spectrum. Ex: The town is oriented to the north, on a mountain overlooking a large lake.
