A prequel is a story, book, or movie that contains events that happened BEFORE an existing work. You can think of it as a story about events that happened before the original. Meanwhile, a sequel is a story, book, or movie that contains events that happened AFTER an existing work. Ex: "The Dark Knight" is the sequel to "Batman Begins". Ex: Out of the two works, I liked the prequel more than the original.
