For immigrants, what's the main difference between "citizenship" and "residency?"

Good question! "Citizenship" grants someone the rights, privileges, and protection of individuals in a country. It's also permanent. Whereas "residency" means that an individual can live in a country but that there are certain conditions the individual must adhere to, they might not have as much freedom or privileges as a citizen. Residency can either be permanent or temporary. Ex: I'm applying for permanent residency in Australia. Ex: Since I was born in the US, I have US citizenship. Ex: You can only get citizenship through marriage here.
