What's "if anything" mean and when's it used?

"If anything" suggests that something else may be true, usually opposite to what was just said! So if you want to suggest that something else is true than stated or what might seem obvious, you can use this. It can also be used to emphasize something. Ex: It won't be too hot this weekend. If anything, it'll probably be too cold. Ex: You'll do well on your test. If anything, you'll do better than the rest of the class. => emphasis Ex: She probably won't get in trouble. If anything, she'll be praised for it.
