"In the wings" is a phrase that means they're ready and waiting for an opportunity to do something and take action. So if one is anticipating something, or others are waiting to take hold of an opportunity, this can be used. It can also refer to the sides of a theatre where performers wait to go onto the stage. Ex: A lot of companies have been waiting in the wings to partner with our business. Ex: I'll be waiting in the wings until the final scene of the show. Ex: She had been waiting in the wings until she had been noticed for her talent by other producers.
