The main difference is the time! "Graveyard shift" doesn't imply a negative nuance. The difference here is that a typical "night shift" is from about 5 PM until around 1 AM, whereas the "graveyard shift," also known as the "overnight shift," is from midnight until about 8 in the morning. Ex: As a nurse, I sometimes have to work the overnight shift. = As a nurse, I sometimes have to work the graveyard shift. Ex: I'm working the night shift at the restaurant. I get off at 11 PM. => "get off" here means to finish work
