What's the main difference between "manage" and "control?"

The main difference is the amount of influence over someone or something. "Manage" means to direct or be in charge of someone, and "control" means to dictate the behavior of something or someone without much choice of their own. Ex: My friend has been super controlling and keeps dictating where we should go and what we should do. Ex: I'll manage the event and delegate a few tasks to the others.
