For "word to get around" means that the news of something, or what someone said, spread quickly among people, and usually by people. So, "word got around" means the news successfully spread, and many people know about it. Ex: We're getting the word around for our exhibition this month. You should come! Tell your friends. Ex: The word around town is that you're looking for a new manager. Can I apply? Ex: Word's going around of a new restaurant down the street.
