Kiwi asks…

What's the difference between "woods" and "forests"?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

"Woods" and "forests" are similar. "Forests" are a thick growth of trees and underbrush covering an extensive tract of land. "Woods" is a thick grove of trees. The main difference is the amount of area these trees and underbrush cover. Ex: Monteverde Cloud Forest is located in Costa Rica. Ex: He lives near the woods. Ex: I really want to travel to Scotland and see Trossachs National Park. The forests there look beautiful. Ex: Many wild animals live in the woods.
