What is the difference between "famous" and "popular"?

"Famous" refers to someone or something being known by many people. "Popular" refers to someone or something being liked by many people. Someone or something can be famous and popular. Ex: Justin Bieber is famous, many people know who he is. Ex: Listening to music is popular, it is a hobby many people enjoy.
