What would be the difference between "compel" and "force"?

There isn’t a strong difference between the two, and both “compelled” or “forced” can be used in this context without changing the meaning of the sentence. Ex: I don’t like being forced to do something that goes against my principles. Ex: His love of education compelled him to become a teacher.
