What is “Academic probation”?

Academic probation is a status given to students who are not doing well at university or college. If a student is getting poor grades and not meeting minimum GPA requirements, they may be put on academic probation. If they pass this period successfully, they return to their regular student status. If they fail, they are at risk of having to leave their major, losing scholarships, or even being dismissed from school.
