No, because here, "change" is the verb of the sentence! If you were to use an adjective instead of "change," then "be + [adjective]" would be correct. Ex: I knew something had to be different now. Ex: When we got back to school after the summer holidays, everything had changed. Ex: I wouldn't change anything.
