A "motif" is a noun that means a decorative design or pattern. It can also be a distinct or dominant idea in art or literature. Ex: Shakespeare's motifs were often about revenge. => theme or idea in writing Ex: I love the motifs in the architecture. => pattern or design Ex: I chose a shirt with a flower motif.
