Whenever I play games like "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" or "Minecraft", I often saw the MODs created by other players. Since pronunciation and functions are similar, the word "mode" and "MOD" are somewhat related?

Actually, these are different things. "Mods/MODS" stands for "modifications," which are add-ons that can be added to a game to make it function differently. It's unrelated to "mode," which is similar in meaning to "method," "style," or "system." Ex: The new mods I installed make the game too hard. Ex: I set my phone to night mode so that the light would be dimmer.
