What's "manage to" mean and when's it used?

To "manage to" do something means to succeed in achieving something, to survive, or get through something against the odds. Ex: I managed to sleep for three hours last night. It was better than nothing! Ex: She finally managed to get a job that she enjoys. Ex: How will you manage camping in this weather?
