Why are Indians good at English?

Native speaker’s answer

Rebecca

India was a British territory until 1947, and so there are lots of British influences in India. English is learned in schools in India and many speakers of Hindi use a mix of English and Hindi today. Furthermore, Hindi and other Indian languages are Indo-European, meaning they share the same origins with many European languages, English included. Therefore, many people in India are fluent in English. However, this does not apply to everyone in the country and is only a small amount of the population.
