What's the difference between "star" and "celebrity"?

"Star" and "celebrity" have pretty much the same meaning and are often used interchangeably. The main difference is that a "star" is normally someone who becomes famous by being talented at something, while a "celebrity" refers to any famous person who does not necessarily have to be talented at anything. "Celebrities" can also be nationally or locally known, while "stars" are usually known on a larger or international scale.
