When can I use "dim down"?
To "dim" means to make something become less bright. To "dim down" is a phrasal verb of "dim" that means to make something less bright by turning it down, such as turning down the lights. While "dim down" is a correct phrase, it is often more common to just say "dim". Ex: Can you dim down the lights for the movie? It's a little too bright in here. Ex: Dim the lights, please.
