What is "mac and cheese"?
"Mac and cheese", which is short for "macaroni and cheese", is a dish made by cooking macaroni pasta and pouring cheese sauce over it. Traditionally it is baked in an oven after the cheese sauce is poured, but it does not have to be baked. Sometimes other ingredients including additional cheese, bread crumbs, and bacon are added to it. This dish is common in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.
