What's the major difference between "contest" and "competition?"
This is a good question! Contest and competition are often used interchangeably. However, contest generally is used for one-off events and include some sort of prize. A competition may or may not offer a prize, and it can include several events in the leadup to the finals. Competition can also refer to the feeling of rivalry that exists between different individuals or groups. Ex: I won the first place prize at a singing contest. Ex: After passing three rounds, we finally won the baseball competition. Ex: Competition between classmates is heavy at our school.
