What does "background" mean here? Can I use "career" instead of "background"?

"Background" in this case refers to someone's work experience or education. It can be similar to "career", although a "career" generally describes someone's permanent job where a "background" just means someone's experiences or skills as a whole, and they don't necessarily have to fit into one job or "career". Ex: I have a Bachelor's degree in business and a background of marketing experience. Ex: She has a very diverse background with experience in many different areas.
